Rail Freight Capacity and Needs Assessment to 2040 for NJTPA
SEEING AROUND THE BEND
Cheng Solutions evaluated the growth of freight coming into the North Jersey region via rail and the Port of New York to examine the impacts of congestion along freight rail lines in NJ. This included an inventory of current rail system conditions, forecasting rail demand, identifying rail corridor constraints and identifying new capacity projects.
We assisted with demand forecast methodology and analysis, developing effective outreach plans, and leading listening sessions with all affected North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA) subregions. This allowed us to deliver insights for needed infrastructure improvements.

SIGNIFICANCE
A maze of freight rail lines and yards, northern New Jersey sees hundreds of trains daily. As growing demand puts more stress on the rail system, knowing where improvements will be needed is key.
