New York City’s Roadmap to 80 x 50 Climate Action Plan
PLANNING FOR COMMITMENT
The Buro Happold Team was contracted by the New York City Mayor's Office of Sustainability to prepare a Climate Action Plan for NYC to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 80 percent by 2050. The plan is a roadmap to reduce emissions in four major sectors: Transportation, waste, buildings and energy. Cheng Solutions was task lead in developing a sustainability plan for NYC’s waste sector. Recommendations included reducing overall waste levels, collecting and composting food waste and increasing reuse and recycling of remaining materials.
SIGNIFICANCE
Progress in the struggle to fight climate change requires bold goals, and even more importantly, the specific metrics and regulations to enact this change.
