MetroNorth and LIRR Ticket Sales and Ridership Model Development

THE GOLDEN TICKET

Metro-North and LIRR sought to update their economic models for forecasting ticket sales and ridership. The new econometric models improved forecasting of demand (ticket sales and ridership) to a series of variables for economic activity, service levels and price, as well as competing modes. Cheng Solutions developed models for the West-of-Hudson Metro-North lines as well as noncommutation tickets for the LIRR system such as senior and student passes. These models are for MTA in-house use to examine future fare and ridership relationship.
